Cultural highlights in Mainz|Rheinhessen

There is no better time in year to celebrate wine to the sounds of great music than during summer season. And, of course, there are also some wineries, which follow the idea of combining art and wine.

There is no better time in year to celebrate wine to the sounds of great music than the hot season. Four days of wine party are in store for those who just cannot get enough of wine and music: Burgberg Under Vibes in Ingelheim from 22th to 25th August. While the setting of this great festival is nothing less than the vineyard itself, the hosts are fresh young winegrowers of the region who present their wines alongside enjoying the festival to the fullest. During the Mainz Wine Market you can enjoy all that the wine capital of Germany has to offer. From 29th August to 1st September and from 5th to 8th September anyone and everyone who produces, sells or just enjoys wine in the region takes part in a get-together in Mainz’s Stadtpark (city park). The park, with its beautiful rose garden, is the romantic location of the largest annual wine festival in Mainz. Three stages, including the cosy area of the “Klanginsel” (Island of Sound), offer live music by great artists. One of the highlights of the event is the traditional wine village of the Great Wine Capitals, where a different international wine capital presents itself every year: this time it is Chile’s turn. From 20th to 24th September wine enthusiasts of Rheinhessen round off the summer with the Alzey wine festival. In the old town of Alzey, a cheerful celebration around an impressive fair with selected regional wines, delicious food and live music awaits the guests. Central point of the festival is the wine terrace, a big area where regional winegrowers present their wines. (www.winzerfestalzey.de)

Wine & Art not-to-miss spots

The winery Jean Buscher in Bechtheim follows an exceptional idea of combining art and wine. Since 1984 the wine growers organise art exhibitions in their wine cellar. A ‘Walk of Art’ leads into the winery’s wine lounge showing art pieces of national and international artists. Offering this way an extraordinary art experience, in 2016 the winery won the Best Of Wine Tourism Award in the category of Art & Culture. Find out for yourself at the next Art and Wine-event! Another place dedicated to the fusion of art and wine is the family run winery Storr and its hotel Himmelacker. With its own theater barn and an open-air stage, the Storr family has been contributing to the region’s culture since 1993. Interesting plays has been staged in an authentic atmosphere among the vineyards. Have a look yourself and get to know the 2011 Best Of Wine Tourism Award winner. (www.winzerhotel-storr.de)
