Historical and refined ambiance combine at Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo

Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo has amazing historical and luxurious ambiance to convey a complete wine tourism experience in the Douro Valley

With a heritage that stretches back over 200 years, Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo occupies over 120 ha of land, and has been listed since the first demarcation of the Douro wine region, in 1756. The estate boasts an original wine cellar dating to 1764 and a 19th-century manor house with a chapel, both of which are beautifully nestled on one of the estate’s hills.

Having just 11 rooms, is the perfect retreat for those seeking tranquility, great wines, and delicious dishes that redefine the culinary scene of the Douro. Staying in the manor house at Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, the only Douro property associated with the Relais & Châteaux brand, allows guests to experience feel the atmosphere of a large Portuguese family home, surrounded by the valley’s stunning scenery along a 1.5 km stretch of the Douro River, in one of the most emblematic zones of the region.

Here, the interior and exterior comforts come together to create a luxurious ambiance. The manor house, situated next to the original winery from 1764, offers a distinctive setting characterized by historic vine terraces that connect the various buildings, including a small chapel. The elegant and inviting communal areas have been meticulously crafted to make guests feel like the main protagonists, providing an ideal space to relax, enjoy life, taste exquisite wines, and savor genuinely delightful food. These features convey the tranquility of a unique place that has as its backdrop an immense valley of schist walls populated by vineyards, divided by a river that soothes the spirit and pleases the eye.

The gardens, surrounded by centuries-old trees, cypresses, and native plants, invite visitors to swim in the small pool overlooking the vineyards and explore the serene, picturesque chapel built in 1795. During their stay, guests can also embark on invigorating walks along the estate’s three marked trails, offering a genuine immersion into the spirit of the region.

Quinta Nova also offers a range of complementary programs designed to fully immerse guests in the essence of the Douro. These include vineyard tours, picnics, personalized tastings, themed wine activities, and even an unforgettable boat trip on the Douro River.
