Rioja to Host the ‘World’s Best Vineyards’ Awards in 2023

The announcement of the World's Best Vineyards Awards 2023 will take place on July in Rioja. The jury that prepares the ranking is composed of more than 500 world personalities from the wine industry, sommeliers and expert travelers.

From July 10 to 13, 2023, the D.O. Ca. Rioja will be the site of these awards honouring the best vineyards and wineries in the world.

Twenty members of the jury and thirty international journalists will tour the Rioja region, visiting vineyards and wineries.  The announcement of the 50 Best Vineyards and Wineries in the World will take place on July 12, streamed live on YouTube.

Each year, the awards recognise unparalleled experiences for visitors, including avant-garde architecture and centuries-old properties.

A jury of over 500 personalities from the world of wine, sommeliers and expert travellers nominate wineries and vineyards based on criteria such as landscapes, the quality of the winery experience, gastronomy, activities and services offered.  The jury members’ ratings determine the final list.

Andrew Reed, Managing Director Wine and Exhibitions at William Reed, organiser of the awards comments: “Rioja is the perfect destination for this year’s World’s Best Vineyard list reveal which combines culture, history and wine tourism equally. With outstanding local restaurants, incredible landscapes, scenery and hundreds of vineyards, we are excited to host this year’s event here and showcase everything the region has to offer.”

Fernando Ezquerro, President of Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja, says: “It is an honour to host the prestigious World’s Best Vineyards 2023 event and a great opportunity to show the world why Rioja is Spain’s finest wine region. Rioja’s history and traditions have led it to establish itself not only as the leading winemaking region in Spain, but also as the country’s go-to destination for wine tourism, which has had a driving effect on the recovery and diversification of tourism in Spain. Our passion for hospitality and wine making makes Rioja such a special place to visit.”

Among the Top 50 honourees in 2022 were Rioja wineries Vinos de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal (# 2) and Bodegas Vivanco (#44).
