The primary objective of the International Research Grant is to support research projects that provide practical insights to the wine tourism sector in the GWC regions while advancing academic knowledge in this domain. The recipients of the grants will have the unique opportunity to present their research findings at the GWC Annual General Meeting in November 2024, which will be hosted in Verona.
Grant Rules
To be eligible for the grant, students (e.g., Undergraduate or Postgraduate) and early-career researchers (e.g., 5 years from the obtainment of a PhD title) must be engaged in research focused on wine tourism, directly relevant to at least one of the Great Wine Capitals. The selection process will involve an international jury, which will choose one research project as the winner. The selected individuals will receive a scholarship of €3,500 upon selection, with the remaining €4,000 awarded upon submission of the final report. Additionally, grant recipients will receive up to €2,000 to cover travel expenses for attending the Annual General Meeting. In cases where attendance is not possible, recipients will receive up to €1,000 to produce a high-quality visual presentation of their research outcomes.
Grant recipients will be required to submit two reports. The first, an intermediary report of a maximum of 2,000 words, should include the introduction, literature review, methodology, sample, and preliminary results. This report must be submitted in Word format to the Permanent Secretary of the Great Wine Capitals – Global Network before 15th March 2024, 5 pm (GMT + 1). Feedback on this report will be provided within one month. The second report, the final report, should range from 6,000 to 8,000 words and include the introduction, literature review, methodology, sample, results, practical implications, and conclusions. The deadline for the final report submission is 30th September 2024, 5 pm (GMT + 1). The Great Wine Capitals website will publish the final report.
Grant recipients are encouraged to present and publish the results of their research, with acknowledgement that the work has been funded in part or in full by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. The network expects to receive copies of these publications for review.
