As a historic winery building, the wine cellar authentically epitomises a piece of Ingelheim’s history as the “red wine town”. After extensive renovation, since 2019 the listed building has been home to a local vinotheque of 24 Ingelheim winegrowers as well as a distillery, a restaurant and a tourist information centre.
Rhine-Hessian limestone, original tiles and beams in the former vinification hall – now an inner garden – as well as the two large vaulted cellars, one above the other, in which wood-carved barrels reveal the stories of earlier generations of winemakers. With the Ingelheimer Winzerkeller the IKUM (Ingelheim’s culture and marketing GmbH) created a singular ensemble on historical ground, finds the jury, and rewards this achievement with a Best Of Wine Tourism Award 2020.
