Lanzerac Country Estate
by Mariette Morris, 2019 Wine Media Cadet
anzerac Country Estate sits just outside of Tanunda, featuring a picturesque backdrop of the Barossa Ranges and is surrounded by vines.
The Estate holds a very special place in owner’s Justin and Casey Carter’s hearts. When they were married in the Barossa in 2006, they spent the weekend with their family and wedding party at Lanzerac, and in a nice piece of serendipity, they ended up buying the place from the couple who had hosted them seven years before.
In fact it was actually the extended family that purchased Lanzerac in 2013, including Justin and Casey’s respective parents, who all now play an integral part in the management and operation of the Estate.
Since taking over the Estate, Justin and Casey have completely renovated and refurbished. The Estate features a classic settlers homestead (where the accommodation is located), and an old French style Barn that has been repurposed for functions, dining and small corporate events. They have also recently landscaped the grounds, which include a beautiful lake with a deck overlooking the vines and Chateau Tanunda.
The Estate now offers five rooms of boutique Bed & Breakfast accommodation, and for those looking for a flexible and bespoke wedding or conference venue with exclusive use, need not look further.
Good old-fashioned hospitality
Lanzerac Country Estate specializes in good old-fashioned hospitality with a touch of luxury. Justin and Casey’s relaxed style, along with their parent’s involvement, gives off a genuine family atmosphere to go with the warm hospitality.
On arrival, guests are shown to their suite and invited to settle in before joining some of the family in the Barn or the Lake Deck for a friendly pre dinner drink.
The suites are light filled, modern and in keeping with the style of the original homestead.
The rooms are nicely decorated, with some clear thought and care given to the details, with an added sense of luxury. Some of suites have bathrooms with freestanding baths, and when combined with the provided bath salts and candles, they are a luxurious way to relax after a hard day, or to enjoy that romantic occasion.
Justin and Casey are very knowledgeable about the endless activities and dining options available in the Barossa Valley, and can recommend where to visit during the day or the best places to dine.
Guests can also enjoy an excellent home cooked breakfast by Justin’s mum in the Barn, including German style smokey bacon and of course ‘Smashed Avo’ for the millennial’s.
Event Space
Lanzerac Country Estate is not just an accommodation provider, it is also a unique bespoke wedding and conference venue.
Flexibility, intimacy and style are at the heart of every Lanzerac wedding. As Lanzerac does not have in house caterers, drinks packages or menus, couples have the freedom to choose whether they want fine dining or something more casual, such as a food truck or mobile pizza. Couples can also choose the types of refreshments and beverages they would like to serve.
Couples book the property exclusively for themselves and key guests from the Friday evening through to the following Monday morning. Having the property for the three nights means that there is plenty of time to set the venue up for the wedding, enjoy the day of the wedding and relax with friends and family after the big day.
There are multiple sites on the property to get married including under the Golden Elm Trees, on the decking by the Lake, or on the lawn with a sea of vines as the backdrop.
Lanzerac can also host you next corporate retreat or private conference. The Barn has been set up to cater for small to medium conferences and has all the technical facilities needed.
Lanzerac Country Estate is the winner of the Best of Wine Tourism Best Accommodation Award. Treat yourself and make Lanzerac your base the next time you visit the Barossa.
