Oxbow Public Market, located in the Oxbow District of Napa, has become the local gathering place for great food and wine in downtown Napa and throughout the Napa Valley.
Steve Carlin, founder and managing partner of the Market, is an active and sought-after consultant in the specialty food industry and a strong supporter of the “Buy Fresh, Buy Local” farm movement. Besides Oxbow, he was directly involved in three other benchmark retail projects; the Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco, Napa Farms Market at San Francisco International Airport, and The Oakville Grocery in the Napa Valley.
The unique open-span public market facility along the Napa River was designed by San Francisco architects, Baldauf, Catton, and Von Eckartsberg, whose credits include the retail space of the Ferry Building in San Francisco. Part of the market includes the rehabilitation of a 1930s tire store and garage, which was substantially remodeled under the direction of local designers, Shopworks, to accommodate additional retail, larger food production facilities and a restaurant space.
The 40,000 square foot marketplace includes a scenic outdoor deck with seating along the Napa River and features a diverse tenant mixture of local food vendors, artisan cafes and an organic produce outlet for local farms. The Market looks to improve the local food culture through education, community outreach and support of local businesses and farms.
