~~Château Rochefort is more than a guesthouse or a table d’hôte serving local products…
It’s a special place, a witness of ancient times that uses its outbuildings on an exceptional vineyard. Farmed using biodynamic methods, it produces Great Vintages that can be sampled on the premises.
ON LA CÔTE, AN ESTATE IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF LAUSANNE…
At the heart of Allaman, a picturesque village in La Côte, Château Rochefort serenely watches over its estate’s four hectares of vines.
Today the municipality of Lausanne manages and develops the vineyard.
A HISTORY DATING ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE MIDDLE AGES
Made up of several historic buildings, the chateau dates back to the 14th century. But you have to go back to the 15th century to find the origin of the chateau’s name, when it was under the control of the Menthon, Lords of Rochefort in Savoie.
Although it takes the name of Rochefort the estate doesn’t stay in the hands of this family for very long. A number of owners succeeded one another as head of the estate from the 16th century onwards.
Finally Antoine Albert and Anne-Louise-Georgette Recordon, having no descendants, bequeathed it to the Bourse des Pauvres (association to help the poor) of the municipality of Lausanne in 1838.
A DISTINCTIVE APPELLATION
It was in 1983 that the land registry designation “Château Rochefort” was made official for the estate’s vintages. Before, they simply bore the word “Allaman”.
