Since the 19th century, the art of viticulture has flourished on the hills where the estate of Villa dei Cipressi now stands, carrying on the wine production. During the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Emperor Ferdinand I of Habsburg had ordered the cultivation of grapes for winemaking across the entire hillside in the province of Verona. The passion for viticulture has been passed down from generation to generation, eventually reaching the current Landini family, who have successfully combined respect for tradition with technological innovation.
In the 1950s, the Italian noblewoman Maddalena Sparici and her husband Remo Landini chose to move into a villa based in Sona, a town situated between Verona and Garda Lake. Maddalena, a wine enthusiast, seized the opportunity to rediscover the ancient vineyards of the estate and, in 1963, decided to produce wine under her own name. This is how Sparici Landini winery has been established.
Francesca Landini tells us about the founder lady that started this activity, and how it was the life with her nanni: «“La Grisa”, known by her birth name Maddalena and to us as grandmother, was a woman of a thousand resources. Strong-willed, curious, severe and generous. She could simultaneously study how to obtain fine wines from her hillside and be a perfect landlady.

She spent hours with her grandchildren at the piano, despairing because we preferred to sing instead of play. She was a devoted and attentive wife… always ready to add 8 places at the table at 7.30 p.m.! Always willing to travel to other continents alone to present her bottles, from China to the US. Always open to welcome the kindergarten children who came for their annual walk with their grandparents on Cypress Avenue. She would go from gala dinners to the train that took her dressed as a Red Cross nurse to Lourdes. This was the Grisa… as all her fellow winemakers had nicknamed her. She left an important legacy… not of capital but of values… values that allowed us to go on stage in October 2024 and receive such an important award: hospitality.
Today, Villa dei Cipressi increasingly seals the love of foreign couples who want to get married between Verona and Lake Garda choosing us, toasting their happiness with our wines! They choose Italian hospitality in an atmosphere steeped in history and art.»
