For nearly 150 years, Oakville Grocery has been a beloved landmark and epicurean destination for locals and visitors alike in the heart of Napa Valley. As California’s oldest grocery store and one of the oldest grocery stores in the United States, Oakville Grocery upholds its centuries-old legacy by serving a curated selection of gourmet foods, artisanal goods, and locally sourced provisions, frequently rotating their seasonal fare and elevating their organic offerings.
Oakville Grocery & Wine Merchant were purchased by the Boisset Collection in 2019, who have continued advancing the properties to their highest potential. Guests can now enjoy a newly constructed outdoor bar (affectionately named The Rabbit Hole), which offers wood-fired pizzas, housemade frosé, and wine, as well as live musical performances and DJs throughout the summer months.
In the neighboring historic Victorian house, also home to the 1881 Napa Wine History Museum, Oakville Wine Merchant features the largest public collection of Napa Valley wines under one roof, including exclusive, highly-allocated wines by the taste, glass, or bottle daily with no reservation needed. Guests have the unique opportunity to sample from the largest selection of 100-point Napa Valley wines — such as Harlan, Opus One, Scarecrow, Screaming Eagle, and Promontory — that would otherwise require a years-long wait just to receive access to an allocation. As such, Oakville Grocery & Wine Merchant provide guests with an entrypoint to experience the best of what Napa Valley has to offer.
In addition to having received the Great Wine Capitals’ 2024 Best of Wine Tourism Award of Excellence, Oakville Grocery is also winner of TripAdvisor’s 2023 Travelers’ Choice Award.
