Nestled amidst the stunning beauty of the Douro Valley, Quanta Terra offers a unique blend of contemporary art, rural life, gastronomy, and wine culture. With a diverse range of cultural events, including hosting local and international artists and musicians, public events, and art exhibitions, this destination has rightfully earned its place as a must-visit winery for all who appreciate fine wine and the arts.
The winery itself is a restored old distillery of Casa do Douro, designed by renowned architect Carlos Santelmo, and functions as a laboratory, wine tourism center, and cultural space. Quanta Terra is more than just a winery, it is a celebration of local culture and heritage.
In addition to promoting artists and musicians, Quanta Terra is also dedicated to supporting cultural preservation efforts in the region. The winery works closely with local historians and archaeologists to identify and preserve historic sites, such as old wine cellars and traditional grape presses. This commitment to preserving the region’s heritage while promoting its artistic and cultural expressions sets Quanta Terra apart from its peers.
The story of Quanta Terra is as unique as its wines. Founded by winemakers Celso Pereira and Jorge Alves, who first crossed paths while working together in the Oenology Department at Caves Transmontanas, this winery has come a long way since its inception as a vague idea.
When the time came to choose between two properties that met their standards, a coin toss was used to decide. Ultimately, they landed on both heads and tails, but the selected property – Quinta do Tralhão – became the pride of the winery and the source of its exceptional wines. The winery, with an average elevation of 215m and southwest exposure, had a total area of 30 hectares at the time, with 12 hectares devoted to vines that had been growing for more than two decades.
For those seeking an unparalleled wine-tasting experience, Quanta Terra offers a range of tastings, including signature tasting with both founders. This iconic reservation for up to six people includes exploring Quanta Terra’s Grande and Gold wine ranges, from the Grande Reserva White and Red to the Phenomena Rosé and Entire editions.
Indulge in the best of wine and culture at Quanta Terra. Discover the beauty of Portugal’s Douro Valley, immerse yourself in local arts and culture, and taste the exceptional wines that have earned this winery its well-deserved accolades.
