Bordeaux is really easy for guests to access, either via high speed TGV train, the international airport or motorway links across the country. Once here, horse drawn carriages and vintage cars take the happy couple through the vines to their ceremony in the cellars, vines or chateaux.
Here are some of our favourite Bordeaux wedding venues.
Just north of Bordeaux city, in the Médoc, Château du Taillan, is a family owned Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, an elegant 18th century chateau, surrounded by 100 hectares of rolling parkland. The vaulted 16th century cellar is a classified National Monument that offers an original space to welcome over up to 170 guests. The private salons of the chateau are perfect for intimate diners and lunches and the balustraded terrace the perfect setting for summer toasts to the happy couple. Their white wine ‘La Dame Blanche’ is perfectly named to toast the bride.
Château Giscours (2024 Global Best Of Wine Tourism Winner), one of the largest properties in Margaux, is surrounded by a beautiful park and forest and has a long history of hospitality. They offer a multitude of different experiences for both large and more intimate groups of guests. The imposing 19th century chateau with its terrace overlooking the landscaped park and gardens is perfect for intimate wedding breakfasts, all sourced from the chateau kitchen gardens. La Ferme Suzanne offers a completely different experience, welcoming large groups thanks to its bucolic architecture and a funky 1970s BBQ for relaxed outdoors receptions. The wedding party can enjoy some chateau hospitality in the three charming guests rooms in the old stables.
Nearby, Château Marquis de Terme (2023 Best Of Wine Tourism Winner) is also the perfect venue for a private event or wedding, easily welcoming 150 people in the beautiful park and the stunning 300m2 ‘Salle du Chai’ overlooking the barrel cellar. The more intimate, Salle du Parc is perfect for groups of up to 50 and their elegant, neighbouring 19th century Maison de l’Estonnat, a private ‘chateau within a chateau’ can welcome up to 80 guests, a compliment to the salons in the main property.
Still on the Left Bank, but south of the city, the Graves is close to both the town and the airport making easy for guests to join the party.
Château Pape Clement, classified growth of Pessac Léognan, is one of the oldest wines estate in Bordeaux dating back to the middles ages. A stone’s throw from Bordeaux city centre, it is set in a green oasis of vines surrounded by an extraordinary park and gardens filled with rare plants, trees and contemporary sculpture. There is also a splendid, restored glasshouse designed by Gustave Eiffel of the Eiffel Tower fame. The Chateau has five guests rooms, a private dining room and even a Rolls Royce should the bride or groom wish to arrive in style.
Les Sources de Caudalie in the grounds of Château Smith Haut Lafitte (2019 Global Best Of Wine Tourism Winner) is a palace hotel and wine spa with three restaurants including the Michelin star Grand Vigne. The spa is a wonderful way for a bride to be pampered in preparation for her big day. Just a stroll through the vines, the Château has a reception room that can cater for several hundred guests for a sit down wedding. Surrounded by lawns and courtyards it offers wonderful backdrops for memorable photos. Close by the lovely 19th Chateau le Thil has 11 bedrooms and a reception pavilion that can welcome up to 160 guests, all set in landscaped gardens of mature trees.
Château Larrivet Haut-Brion (2020 Best Of Wine Tourism Winner), nearby the Gervoson family, welcomes weddings in their reception rooms above the wine cellars of the property. from the bright, light and contemporary salons walk out on to the 200m² sun deck overlooking the beautiful garden and vines. The garden is also a wonderful place to start the reception, enjoy a class of the family’s wine in front of the lake and the ‘Jardin Millésimé’ designed to represent both the red and white wines of the property.
In France, the sweet wines of Bordeaux are traditionally celebratory wines, served at weddings, christenings and confirmations. So it seems an obvious place to celebrate .A little further south still in the Graves is the quaint village of Cérons on the banks of the Garonne River. Eponymous Château de Cérons (2025 Best Of Wine Tourism Winner) welcomes the happy couple and their guests in an elegant reception room, still with the original decoration, that spans the width of the 17th century and in one of the oldest cellars of the region.
The stunning chateau is the perfect backdrop to the park with its ancient trees that shelter guests from the summer sun as they raise a glass of the spectacular sweet wine to the happy couple.
In neighbouring Sauternes Château Lafaurie Peyraguey (2020 Best Of Wine Tourism Winner) is the perfect place for a sparkling wedding. It’s not the wine that sparkles but the decoration, dominated by Lalique crystal that gives its name to the beautiful l’Hôtel & Restaurant Lalique here. It is also a First Classified Growth of Sauternes producing the delicious, sweet wines of the region as well as a Michelin star restaurant and 13 rooms and suites.
Small but perfectly formed, on the opposite bank of the Garonne, Youmna and Toni Asseily welcome intimate groups to Château Biac. They share one of the most stunning views of the region, high above the River where they make both red and sweet white Cadillac wines. A private dining room and reception area and terrace is available at the heart of the three self-catering cottages on this hillside vineyard for couples wanting to host a more discreet event.
The rolling, vine clad hills of the Right bank of Bordeaux make a romantic setting for any event and perfect for a wedding. Close to the medieval city and UNESCO World Heritage of Saint Emilion, Château Bellefont Belcier (2023 Best Of Wine Tourism Winner) is situated in private parkland at the foothills of the appellation with terraces overlooking the vines and the Dordogne Valley. With their partner property Château Tour Saint Christophe, they have a range of spaces for private and atypical spaces. The 18th century has a beautiful gardens and terraces, a series of elegant salons, a unique, historic circular winery and a barrel room that can welcome up to 120, plus rooms to welcome 34 overnight guests.
The impressive 18th century Château Soutard is also an historical monument on the very edge of the village of Saint Emilion. This working classified vineyard offers many venues. The ancient cellars can host up to 160 guests, there’s also the contemporary vat room, the rustic farm or their elegant gardens. There are four private suites for guests in the château and a private dining room for 18 guests.
Perfectly placed between Bergerac and Bordeaux in the Côtes de Castillon, the impressive Château Pitray has been in the same family for 600 years and 26 generations. Entering this property through the forest of the 100 acres estate is like taking a step back in time. Surrounded by parkland and hundred-year-old oaks and cedars, this glorious family property built in 1868 offers complete privacy. Beneath the elegant French salons and dining room on the first floor are the underground cellars that open up to a terrace and swimming pool can welcome up to 60 guests. 13 bedrooms across 2 floors means no one has to drive home!
Between the left and right banks for Bordeaux, in the heart of a typical Entre deux Mers village, you’ll find Château Lestrille (2023 Best Of Wine Tourism Winner). The understated elegance of the traditional stone cellars can host 120 guests with room for the dance floor. An outdoor tree lined patio is perfect for raising a glass of the house sparkling crémant de Bordeaux. There’s a modern kitchen for caterers to work their magic and a play room for younger guests. Chateau owner Estelle Roumage is happy to share her little black book of local addresses from florists to photographers and musicians to make the day and night unique. She will also lend you her original 2CV for the wedding procession to the ceremony or photos in a picturesque clearing amongst the vines.
