Braunewell sets new sustainability standards – from its vines to its postage stamps. After all, the wine-making family focused on sustainability, efficiency and working conditions when planning the extensive renovation and expansion of its business from 2018 to 2021. For example, all lights are now LEDs and rainwater is collected for irrigation. Guests can explore the sustainable design of the company’s wine cellars and wine production process on exciting tours.
The winery covers an impressive 70% of its energy needs by generating its own electricity – and it aims to be certified soon as an energy-plus building with a battery or additional photovoltaic system. The family is committed to achieving ambitious sustainability goals in the future, as reflected by its “fair&green” certification. The jury was impressed by all of this and more – the Best of Wine Tourism Award 2022 for “Sustainability in Wine Tourism” goes to Weingut Braunewell.
