The “Women in the Vineyard” project was born in 2018. A diagnosis detected the presence of many female producers in the area of La Consulta, Department of San Carlos, Mendoza. They were working individually but shared the same challenges and concerns. There was a first meeting in 2018. Since then, they continue with the horizontal integration to train, strengthen ties and work together.
Harvest 2021
To date, the group is made up of 21 female grape and wine producers. They seek alternatives for their improvement in terms of organizational work and profitability, as well as access to training and support in the production of a high-quality wine with its own brand.
Currently, the group produces 2,000 liters of high-quality wine under the “Passionate” brand. Their idea is to gradually increase their production. At the moment, they have 250 bottles of Malbec and 250 bottles of Merlot from the 2020 vintage for sale.
To make this possible, the Argentine Wine Corporation (COVIAR) supported the group with funds to acquire equipment, which includes a destemmer, tanks for vinification and a centrifugal pump. The INTA provided with a physical space at their Experimental Station to conserve and bottle the wine.
During this 2021 harvest, the members of the group, for their part, provided the labor for the harvesting of grapes, the winemaking and the bottling. In addition, as it is a horizontal integration project, each producer contributed with 200 kilograms of grapes to the production of the 2,000 liters of wine.
