As the world’s attention is focused on London, San Francisco|Napa Valley is busily preparing for the third largest international sporting event, the 34th America’s Cup, to be held in San Francisco in 2013. Napa Valley was named the Official Wine Region of the 34th America’s Cup, sharing the elemental spirit of yachting’s most prestigious contest -- a fundamental drive to achieve only the best result. And like the contenders for the America’s Cup, The Napa Valley has a rich legacy to maintain, and the sense of stewardship is felt keenly throughout the community.

While the 34th America’s Cup and Louis Vuitton Challenger Series do not begin until July 2013, the World Series (ACWS) qualifying races will be held in the San Francisco Bay on August 21 -26, and again October 2-7. Ten crews from eight countries are participating, including teams from two other Great Wine Capital countries – France and Italy. The ACWS races will take place along San Francisco’s northern waterfront, and excitement is building as the boats recently arrived in San Francisco by train. The America’s Cup Express, a 121 car train stretching over 1.5 miles, rolled into the City by the Bay carrying everything needed to move the teams in to its host city, including the the powerful AC45 wing-sailed catamarans that have been ”thrilling crowds and challenging the best sailors in the world.”

The best viewing location for the World Series is Marina Green in San Francisco, site of the America’s Cup Village with race views and commentary, as well as food, entertainment and family activities. Only Napa Valley wines will be served at the America’s Cup, and guests can enjoy a glass all week long at the Napa Valley Wine Lounge, located in Race Village.

Both San Francisco and Napa Valley are offering special hotel packages for visitors, and Napa Valley, a little more than an hour drive from the City, is providing exclusive offers for guests, partners, and friends of the America’s Cup.

San Francisco|Napa Valley are thrilled to be involved with this spectacular international event, and look forward to sharing the unrivaled beauty, world-class cuisine, and award-winning wine that truly defines the region as a Great Wine Capital of the World.
